Grade 8 (Language Arts & Social Studies)

Students will learn to appreciate cultural diversity by reading The Diary of Anne Frank. This piece of literature provides students with one example of how prejudice affected lives throughout the world. Students will be exposed to different propaganda techniques. They will work in cooperative groups to create newspapers relevant to the Holocaust to be used as a learning tool in future classes. They are required to conduct research on propaganda techniques, conduct interviews, and practice news writing. The final product will showcase their understanding of cultural diversity, propaganda techniques and news writing.
